I was introduced to Microcurrent Therapy three years ago when I began treatments for stress-related illness. Yes, you read that right! It was something I was ashamed to admit and I felt like a hypocrite. Everything I know and teach and preach about stress management, I was not practicing in my own life. I bit off more than I could chew and I was spread thin, overwhelmed, overworked and severely lacked sleep for far too long, which led to multiple health issues.
Looking back, there is always a lesson to be learned in adversity. I can say with confidence, through that experience, I learned a lot about the detrimental effects of stress on my spirit, mind and body, and how to identify my stress threshold; recognizing when I need to say no and pull back on opportunities and responsibilities that are not in line with my priorities and core values. I have acquired a deeper understanding of pain and illness, all the while cultivating compassion and empathy.
Two years ago, while coming down a flight of stairs at the gym after work, chatting with a client, we were making our way down, I took a miscalculated step, my arms reflexively flung out to grab on to the walls on either sides of me to prevent from falling on top of my client, who was already at the bottom of the stairs. Somehow, I landed on the top of my right foot instead of the bottom, straining ligaments and muscles. I promptly composed myself and walked it off like 'no big deal,' got into my car and began driving. It didn't take long for the reality of the injury to set in, as my foot began to throb while maneuvering the pedals. I pulled over to book a microcurrent therapy treatment, and thankfully, was able to get in immediately. I did not use ice or take any pain killers, I let my body do what it needed to do to heal. The first night was painful, there was a lot of burning and swelling but within two days I was able to walk on it again and return to work. The results were remarkable!
A year and a half ago, I was given the opportunity to learn more about microcurrent therapy and add this electrotherapeutic treatment to the services that I offer at Home Fitness Plus. Having experienced this treatment for both chronic and acute conditions, I know the benefits and how it would complement the services that I am already offering with the same holistic approach. I have been training with the Thorp Institute of Integrated Medicine, practicing and treating people with the Electro-Acuscope and Electro-Myopulse devices for various conditions including, joint pain, organ pain, concussion, neck pain, back pain, foot pain, neuropathy, edema, carpal tunnel syndrome, and full body detoxification with amazing results.
Additionally, as an ICBC health service provider, I have combined microcurrent therapy treatments with rehabilitation exercise programs and somatic movement education to help people heal and recover from motor vehicle accidents, quickly.
